Hey there everyone! Mary here! Kansas City FilmFest kicks off this week on April 5th!  Check out the info below for when & where to find Flipt Pictures at this year’s festival.

 

April 5 SaturdayReel Spirit 2D Animation Workshop

 

When: 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
Where: Alamo Drafthouse, 1400 Main Street
Age Range: 9 – 16

 

Thanks to Reel Spirit, I will be giving a workshop that will take a look at some of the basic tools of traditional 2D Animation and explore two of the 12 basic principles of animation, Timing and Squash & Stretch. We will work on an animation exercise that every animator starts out with, the ball bounce.  Stop on by and get a free Flipt Pictures thaumatrope.

 

April 8 TuesdayKCWIFT Night at the KC FilmFest

 

When: Happy Hour starts at 5:30 p.m., Event Starts at 7:00 p.m.
Where: Alamo Drafthouse, 1400 Main Street

As a board member of Kansas City Women in Film, I am proud to be a part of this event at the KC FilmFest.  Happy Hour begins at 5:30 and then the main event will begin at 7:00 with a screening of the short film “Selfie” and a Q&A with producer Sharon Liese of Overland Park.  This will be followed by a live staged reading of the finalists of our Short Screenplay Contest and the winner of the $1,000 cash prize!

 

April 10 and 12 Thursday and SaturdayHomegrown: Heartland Narrative Shorts

 

When: Thursday April 10 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday April 12 at 3:20 p.m.
Where: Cinemark on the Plaza, 600 Nichols Road

This is a great block of short films that will be screening here. I’ve seen a few of these films and the talent in this neck of the woods is crazy good.  I am proud that some of Flipt Pictures work will be shown in Lyn Elliot’s short film, A Good Match.  You can check out more about that bit of animation in the blog post here.

I am so happy that the Kansas City FilmFest asked me to help out with the animation programming for this year’s festival.  It was a lot of fun and they’ve really gone all out to bring in some amazing animated films and talent.  There is a slew of fantastic animated shorts. There are some amazing special guests including:

 

  • Bill Plympton, “The King of Indie Animation,” will be here to screen his latest animated feature, Cheatin’, receive the KC FilmFest Indie Pioneer Award and will also give an animation masterclass on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.!
  • Ralph Bakshi, Director of Cool World, will give a live skyped Q & A and the festival will screen 3 of his animated feature films, Wizards, Heavy Traffic and Coonskin. His son, Eddie Bakshi, will be in attendance with Bakshi Productions merchandise.
  • Stephan Franck, Animator, Storyboard Artist & Designer who has worked on such projects as The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, Space Jam, Despicable Me, Eight Crazy Nights and How To Train Your Dragon and creator of the graphic novel Silver will attend to talk about these projects and more.
