This illustration was done for a local yard sign competition for the fall 2020 elections. The creative brief asked that the word “VOTE” be highly visible and reference the 100 year anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment.
2020 was a year of many protests and since the U.S. women suffragists were the first to protest at the White House I decided to use a protest sign theme. The color scheme incorporates the same color scheme the suffragists used from the mid-1800s onward: yellow, purple and white. There are 36 stars representing the 36 states that ratified the 19th Amendment. And the yellow rose is symbol of the U.S. women’s suffragist movement as well.
